The Coronation Street cast is buzzing with excitement — and a little bit of warning — as George Shuttleworth actor Tony Maudsley offers fans a first look at the new family set to shake up life on the cobbles.
Tony, who has played the lovable undertaker since 2020, took to Instagram to welcome the Driscoll-Price clan, who will soon take over as landlords of the iconic Rovers Return. His message, however, came with a cheeky caution: “Don’t be fooled by that sweet smile. Maggie Driscoll is about to be unleashed on the nation and the good folk of Weatherfield. Be afraid. Be VERY afraid!!”
The post came with a behind-the-scenes photo of Tony alongside co-stars Pauline McLynn — who will play the sharp-tongued Maggie — and Peter Gunn, Corrie’s resident teacher-turned-romantic, Brian Packham.
The Driscoll-Price Family Moves In
The excitement follows ITV’s reveal that Catherine Tyldesley is officially returning to Coronation Street as Eva Price after seven years away. Eva, last seen moving to France with daughter Susie after Aidan Connor’s tragic death, is back — and this time, she’s the Rovers’ new landlady.
Joining her are acclaimed actors Aaron McCusker as Eva’s new partner, Ben Driscoll, and Pauline McLynn — best known as Mrs Doyle in Father Ted — as his interfering mother, Maggie. Completing the family are Susie (Aurora Bradshaw) and Ben’s sons Will (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) and Ollie (Raphael Akuwudike).
In August, the first official photo of the new Rovers family sent fans into overdrive, with Tony Maudsley calling them “our new Corrie family” and promising that viewers are “gonna LOVE them.”
“Batten Down the Hatches”
In his latest update, Tony shared another glimpse from the Rovers, this time with a mischievous warning about McLynn’s new role. “Batten down the hatches and don’t be fooled by that sweet smile,” he joked. “Maggie Driscoll is about to be unleashed.”
The teasing tone has fans eager to see what kind of chaos Maggie might bring. Known for her nosy, overbearing, yet oddly endearing manner, Maggie could easily become one of Weatherfield’s most talked-about new arrivals.
Catherine Tyldesley was quick to comment under Tony’s post, writing: “Oh I love this pic! All my faves.” Meanwhile, co-star Samia Longchambon (Maria Windass) added: “What a trio!” Fans were just as enthusiastic, flooding the comments with excitement.
One viewer wrote, “We can’t wait! We’ve been massive fans of Mrs Doyle for yonks!” Another added, “Pauline McLynn is going to be brilliant. Great addition to Corrie!”
